Past & Future Ice Bears - Speed Week 2025
Last week, Future Ice Bears took to the ice for the 6th annual Speed Week 2025! They reconnected with their hockey friends to cap off the summer with hard work and fun as they were joined by some special guests: recently graduated Ice Bears and 2025 state champions, the 2024-25 Varsity team captains! The 2025 grads brought out the hardware, sharing the State Championship trophy and showing off some recently received championship rings. They were joined by Head Coach Craig Hagkull who helped welcome the Future Ice Bears.
Coach Harris and Coach Hagkull kicked off the week for the Future Ice Bears. As he introduced the team captains and showcased the trophy, Coach Harris's message to the skaters was simple: "This is what's possible through hard work; just 6 years ago when Speed Week started, these team captains were right here in your skates, starting the journey that you have out in front of you." Pointing to a championship trophy, Coach Hagkull added, "This is where it led for them, and it can for you too if you're willing to push yourselves and each other to work hard and have fun together!"
Team captains Max Bloomfield, Ty Rook, Matthew Russo, and William Schauss echoed that it takes hard work, Bloomfield pointing to "...early-morning 6am practices, summer skates, hard work in the weight room and in the classroom." But the captains also cited one other important factor that they say is just as important as hard work -- Teamwork. Russo added, "It's the relationships you start building now with your future teammates that will motivate you to put in the hardwork -- you win state championships for yourself, your school, but most of all for each other."
Over 40 Future Ice Bears participated in Speed Week 2025. In coming years, they will continue to invest and put in the hardwork as they develop their skills, relationships, and a love for the game.
