HS Mini-Camps - Summer

UA Hockey Summer Mini-Camps are a critical component of continuity and preparation for tryouts and the season ahead -- both individually and as a program. Under OHSAA rules, teams are allowed 13 days of coaching / contact during the off-season with a 30-day coaching "blackout" period in the month of August.
UA Hockey divides the 13 days into three shorter mini-camps (3-4 days) and scrimmages (1-2 days) to allow players to attend most sessions, but allow for various other summertime obligations such as summer jobs and family vacations. While attendance is highly encouraged, coaches understand the summer is a busy time and anticipate there will be some absences -- this does not impact evaluations or tryouts in any way.
Camps are intended to further team development and help incoming players transition into the program, developing rapport with coaches and prospective teammates.
Who
Open to ALL returning and prospective players who will enter grades 9-12 in the Fall of 2025.
Players who DO NOT plan to tryout in the Fall of 2025 or may intend play club / travel hockey for one more year, are still welcomed and encouraged to participate.
Where
Sessions will be held at various Chiller rinks around Columbus.
The Ice Haus is currently down for maintenance. Once it's re-open date is confirmed, some late-June sessions may be relocated to the Ice Haus as our home rink.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if we're going to be out of town over the summer?
Coaches know families are busy over the summer and vacation plans, summer jobs, or other obligations may prevent players from attending all sessions. This does not have an adverse impact on tryouts as the summer camps are not evaluative. The summer training dates have been divided over several weeks in hopes that players may be able to attend the majority of events even if they are unavailable in any given week.
Coaches simply request that players communicate planned absences directly or through Crossbar for planning purposes.
If I'm not attending all sessions, is the cost pro-rated?
No. Unfortunately, due to the direct pass-through to cover ice costs, we are unable to pro-rate the cost of mini-camps in the event of absences.
While we anticipate many players will miss at least some sessions, we encourage them to attend as many as they are available for to maximize the value and impact of summer training.
Can I request a specific group / session?
No. Coaches will generally assign groups / sessions and divide players to balance numbers within groups and optimize practices. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate requests for carpooling and personal preference, but players typically will be assigned with others in their grade level.
If attendance and numbers allow, players may be permitted at the coaching staff's discretion, to join the earlier session or remain for the later session. Otherwise, players should plan to attend their assigned session only.
If specific circumstances (e.g. work schedules) would otherwise prevent attendance, reach out (info@uahockey.com) and we will try to work with you or accommodate, if possible.
HS Mini-Camps - Summer 2025
UA Summer Mini-Camps are the UA Men's Ice Hockey Program's summer training program in June and July each year.
OHSAA rules limit off-season coaching to 13 contact days with coaches and players between the end and beginning of each regular season. There is a 30 day "blackout period" during the month of August.
UA Hockey utilizes the 13 days through a series of Mini-Camps (3-4 days each) followed by Summer Scrimmages (1-2 days). Practices conducted during these camps provide critical continuity and set the team up to effectively conduct Captain Skates and tryouts in the Fall.
