Jay Graham
Head Varsity Coach
Head Varsity Coach, Jay Graham, is returning for his 13th year on the Golden Bear staff and his 10th year as the head hockey coach. A resident of Columbus and graduate of Westerville South High School, Coach Graham still considers New England to be home, being a native of Providence, Rhode Island.
Jay developed his early hockey skills under the tutelage of his father, a member of the Bruins organization and one of the founders of the Columbus C.A.H.A. travel program. In high school, Coach Graham played Junior “A” hockey for C & H Piping of the North American Junior Hockey League, where he was awarded All-League honors. Recruited by The Ohio State University varsity hockey program, Coach Graham was a four-year letterman on defense for the Buckeyes from 1990-1993.
Jay graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Sociology and continued his education at Ohio Dominican, earning his teaching certification. He is currently a middle school math teacher with the Columbus Public Schools. He resides in Columbus with his wife Tracey, their sons Jake and Max, and their daughter Chelsea.
Scott Lancia
Assistant Varsity Coach
Assistant Varsity Coach, Scott Lancia, is returning for his 10th year with the Golden Bear’s hockey program. A 1987 Upper Arlington graduate and former Golden Bear Varsity player, Lancia brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to the UA hockey program.
While attending Ohio University where he received his Bachelor’s degree, Lancia remained active in hockey. He played for the University’s Club Hockey program, skating forward for the Bobcats.
David Thompson
Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
David graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 2005 where he was a great defenseman playing hockey under Jay Graham for all four years. His senior year he was team captain.
David attended Miami University his freshman year where he played on the club team. He then came back to Columbus and played three years of club hockey for Ohio State. He is currently studying finance at OSU and will be graduating in December 2009.
David considers hockey one of his biggest passions. Although he will miss playing competitive hockey as a player, David relishes the opportunity to contribute as assistant coach of the JV team. He is extremely excited for the upcoming season!
